My unique handmade jewelry uses fragments of vintage quilts, lace and postcards which are encased in micro-thin glass. I solder each with silver solder. I carefully select pieces of quilt and lace and preserve these beautiful jewels from the past. The heart-shaped suncatchers feature quilt pieces and colored glass to shine in any room. The suncatchers have pieces of vintage quilts or lace placed between two pieces of micro-thin glass. These carefully chosen quilt fragments are combined with complementary colored glass, then soldered using the copper foil technique to create a beautiful heart-shaped suncatcher. My idea to design handcrafted silver jewelry that would feature vintage lace and quilts grew from my love of antiques, especially quilts, and from a stained glass class I took while dating my husband. I graduated from college with a Fashion Merchandising degree. After my marriage I became a stay-at-home Mom with the birth of my first child. I pursued my hobby of working with stained glass until it became That Old Blue House eight years ago. I am especially drawn to antique crazy quilts because of their beautiful handwork. Since many crazy quilts are made with satin, silk, and velvet fabric, they are often very tattered. Please know, I only use tattered quilts. I would never cut a pristine quilt. I feel my work only accents the beautiful work of the quilters from the past. These pieces of neglected fabric are given a chance to shine in my jewelry. Each is a heirloom quality piece of vintage jewelry. Each year I attend a select number of quilt shows and art fairs. Look for me this year at: Contact
